If you are planning to start a business then you will need a business plan that will guide you through the world of getting a business up and running. In doing this there are always several myths that people who are going into business tend to believe.

Many of these simply are not true and if they are not dispelled then it can lead to the end of your small business dream. I will look at these myths that many people have in their heads when they start a business.

The first of these myths is that you don’t need a business plan since it is just you and your dream. This is a common myth that many people make the mistake of believing when they are in the process of getting their business up and running. Let’s face it you don’t take a trip cross country without a road map. The same is true when it comes to a business. Without a business plan you have no idea as to where you are going with your business. A business plan will help you get to the goal that you have your business. And as a result will allow you to have more success in the meantime.

Many people think that they have to buy their business plan software before they begin their business. The software could come in handy when it comes to making the most of your business plan. The software is just a tool that will help you when you are planning out the details of your business plan. Having the software will aid you greatly but is not required in order to make sure that have a killer business plan.

There are those that are out there that think that you have to hire a person to write the business plan for you. Many people are able to write a business plan if they have a template that is in front of them to help guide through the process of writing their business plan. There is no need to hire an outsider to write the plan for you. If you are not comfortable with writing the plan out yourself then you will want to hire a person to write the plan out for you. There are several people out there that can write an effective business plan for little to no cost to you.

Business plans are not something that you need to be afraid of when you go to start your business. These are great little tools that will give you everything that you need when it comes to the direction of your business. When an investor goes to look over your business the first thing that they will want to see is your business plan. A great business plan is the thing that will make the difference of success or failure.

Don’t be one of those people that fall into the trap of letting the myths about business plans scare you away from developing one for your small business. After all if you are successful a small business will become a large business.

Business Planning question by jar0507: What should we name our event planning business?
My friend & I are setting up our event planning business but are stuck on picking out a name. We already have a few clients so now we REALLY need a name so we can get started on planning & payments!
We’re going to be doing weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, & birthdays. Not only do we do the planning, we also make stationery, favors, and some of the other decor. So I don’t want the name to be too specific since we cover so much ground.
Any suggestions??

I’d name it something that fits the following criteria:
1) Easy to remember
2) Has a URL available so you can get a great website name
3) Describes what your business does
4) If appropriate for your target market
5) Means something to you

If it fits that criteria, it is probably a good name.
