Work at Home

Article by Sharon Briault

Working online from the comfort of your own home. Deciding when you want to work and when you want to take a break.

Sounds good, doesn´t it? Well, it can be, providing that if you choose to work from home, you set yourself a few ground rules.

Firstly, you will need a designated workspace away from any distractions. Sitting in front of the TV with a laptop just won´t do.

By giving yourself somewhere to sit in front of your computer, you will be setting the scene to “work”.

You will need to set yourself a schedule and whilst you can set your own hours, you need a plan to accomplish certain tasks by certain times. Without a schedule, things tend to drift or be forgotten altogether, which makes success very difficult to achieve.

You must have rules. For example, family members or friends must be made aware that just because you are working at home, this does not mean that you are available to do the laundry, pop out to the supermarket or spend hours chatting on the telephone. If you are serious about working from home, then that is precisely what you should aim to do.

You need to able to motivate yourself if you want to be successful in generating an online income and above all, you need to be determined to succeed

Remember, when you first start your online business, you will be learning as you go. The result of this is that initially, everything will take three times as long to achieve as it will when you´ve gained a little experience. So, you should expect to be putting in some long hours when you first start out.

That said, working from home is an absolutely viable means of generating an income for yourself and although it is not always easy, it is certainly worth persevering with as the rewards can be significant.

Working At Home question by Allen: Websites that teach you how to make a lot of money working from home at your computer?
What is the catch to those websites that are advertised to teach you how to make lots of money from home, while only working a few hours a day on your computer?

For example, this website advertised that a stay at home mom is making $ 7000 per month just by working from her computer at home for a few hours a day…

I know they’re probably full of it, but I am just curious what exactly do those websites ask people to do? Help them sell stuff?

Yes, and it’s usually sending out spam. And it is a joke, you wont make that kind of money. Everybody would be doing it.

This review is from: Trophy Husband: A Survival Guide to Working at Home (Hardcover)

Author Steve Brewer is one of more than 20 million Americans who work from home. As a novelist and father, Brewer writes a column on telecommuting challenges and parenting which brings to life the many issues of the work-at-home – with more than a light touch of humor. Trophy Husband: A Survival Guide To Working At Home is very highly recommended reading for househusbands and the growing legions of men who telecommute to their jobs.
